Porcelain Veneers

Chipped, stained, or misshapen teeth can make you feel self-conscious about the appearance of your smile.

Porcelain veneers cover these imperfections to give you natural-looking and beautiful teeth once again.

At Dental Associates of New England in Boston, MA, our expert team of dentists can transform your smile with custom porcelain veneers.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Veneers are thin porcelain shells that are placed over the front surfaces of natural teeth to cover:

Chipped, Cracked, or Misshapen Teeth

Misshapen teeth or teeth with imperfections such as cracks or chips can be enhanced with veneers as long as the teeth and gums are healthy.

Stained Teeth

Discolored teeth may not always respond to whitening treatment, especially if the stains are deep. Veneers cover the discoloration and give you a brightened smile.

Misaligned Teeth

Minor misalignments and gaps can be addressed with porcelain veneers, giving your smile a straighter appearance.

A Closer Look at Porcelain Veneers

During this dentistry procedure, your dentist will remove a small amount of enamel and place a porcelain shell over the tooth, covering cosmetic imperfections. At Dental Associates of New England, we use high-quality porcelain and zirconia instead of resin to give patients a natural-looking and long-lasting smile.

Porcelain Veneer Placement

Let’s take a step-by-step look at the treatment process:

Veneers are a longer-lasting cosmetic dentistry solution than whitening treatments and dental bonding.

Initial Consultation

Dr. Meola or one of our expertly trained dentists will perform an initial consultation to examine your teeth and determine if dental veneers are the right treatment for you. Your dentist will also ensure your teeth are healthy enough to support veneers. You will need at least two appointments for veneer placement.

Preparing the Tooth

At your first appointment, your dentist will prep each tooth. A small amount of enamel, about 0.5 to 0.7 millimeters, is removed from the tooth surface to allow the dental veneer to fit and bond properly with your tooth. This also ensures that the veneer looks and feels natural with your other teeth and prevents it from protruding.

Impressions

Your dentist will take impressions of your teeth, which allows them to craft custom veneers to fit each tooth that's being treated. You don’t have to worry about goopy dental putty, either; we’ll use a 3D scanner to get high-quality digital impressions of your smile.

Fabrication and Placement

Once your veneers are crafted, they are bonded to each tooth with a durable dental cement. Your dentist may want you to schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure maximum fit and comfort.

Unsure if Dental Veneers Are the Right Choice?

Bonding May Be Ideal for You

Your dentist can always craft a single veneer to address minor imperfections, but another cosmetic dentistry option may be a better fit. With dental bonding, a small amount of tooth-colored resin is applied to the tooth to conceal cracks, chips, or discoloration.

While dental bonding isn't as effective or long-lasting as veneers, it is faster and less expensive. Get in touch with us to determine whether dental bonding or veneers is best for your goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are veneers made of?

We craft our veneers using high-quality, medical-grade porcelain, zirconia, and chromium cobalt instead of resins. Using these high-quality materials ensures your veneers will have a natural-looking gloss and be stain-resistant. They will also be durable so you can enjoy your smile for years.

How are veneers made?

At Dental Associates of New England, we use a high-end lab that employs skilled ceramicists who are Japanese-trained. These experts are some of the best, crafting high-quality and natural-looking veneers to give our patients stunning results

Do veneers hurt?

Veneers are minimally invasive, and most patients do not experience any discomfort during placement. Only a thin layer of enamel is removed, and there is no downtime or recovery with veneers. However, if you experience any pain, please let your dentist know so they can ensure your comfort and address the issue. If you have concerns about pain or are anxious just visiting a dental office, let us calm your fears. We also offer sedation dentistry so you can get the smile you want, without anxiety.

Is there a limit to how many veneers I can get?

During your initial consult, your dentist will discuss your cosmetic goals and examine your teeth. Veneers are typically used on the front teeth, and your teeth must be healthy enough to support the veneers. However, our dentists at our Boston, MA, dentistry practice are skilled in multiple areas of cosmetic dentistry and can help you find the right treatment should veneers not work for all your concerns.
